Benidorm is a popular resort on the east coast of Spain. It is hard to believe that the city, which today is called "Spanish Las Vegas" and "European Miami", was once a small fishing village. Now only a few streets remind you of the original appearance, and the biggest part of the city is coved by impressive skyscrapers, hotels, shopping centers, beaches and amusement parks.
How to spend time in Benidorm?
Benidorm is divided into old and new parts. The historical part of the city is represented by traditional Spanish narrow streets with houses
built in the 17-19th centuries. In the historical part there are several traditional Spanish attractions: the remains of the ancient Iberian settlement of Tossal de la Cala, the church of St. Jaime (Iglesia de San Jaime), the ruins of the 16th-century observation tower Torre Morales.
The modern part of Benidorm, on the contrary, is
full of high-rise buildings and skyscrapers with shopping centers, supermarkets and disco clubs.
Benidorm is also famous for its
beaches. We can say that the city stands on two large sandy beaches -
Levante (Playa de Levante) and
Poniente (Playa de Poniente). If you prefer a quiet and secluded vacation, Benidorm has a cozy 120-meter-long
Mal Pas Beach between Levante and Poniente.
Famous
Terra Mitica amusement park awaits tourists a 10-minute drive from Benidorm, where you can have fun all day while riding a roller coaster and other attractions. The program is complemented by colorful shows in the park, as well as restaurants and hotels. In total, more than 30 attractions operate in Terra Mitica, and in the theme zones you can travel thousands of years ago to get acquainted with the civilizations of
Ancient Rome, Greece and Egypt.
Next to Terra Mitica is the large
Terra Natura Zoo. More than 1,500 animals live there, including tigers, lions, black jaguars, crocodiles, rhinos, camels, elephants, monkeys, birds and reptiles.
Water park
Aqua Natura is a large modern water park with an impressive pool of 5000 m² and many slides with a total length of more than 1000 meters. Aqua Natura also offers visitors amusement rides combined with recreational areas where you can relax, sunbathe and refresh yourself.
